Project Objectives: Painting Joy: The Life and Work of Fernando Llort, written by Terri Ahrens, is a look at the art, life, and activism of the artist who made it his life’s work to teach and to honor the indigenous culture that came before him. In later years he settled in the small village of La Palma and recreated those ancient images in his own art, as well as the art of locals. In doing so, he transformed the village into an artisan community, and the entire country reconnected with their ancient past. Beloved as the national artist of El Salvador, and his art is admired around the world.
